Advance Clean Energy Goals

According to the Clean Air Task Force, “Geologic storage of CO2 is a safe and proven technology that has been commercially operating in the U.S. since the 1970s.” International studies addressing the energy transition suggest that CCS is a required, key tool for rapid decarbonization, along with energy efficiency and electrification. This legislation builds on the existing stringent requirements mandated by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and includes additional protections and environmental justice considerations.

Promoting Economic Development and Job Creation

This legislation is the result of collaboration among labor, business, and the agriculture community, recognizing the unique role CCS can play in growing the state’s economy across a wide variety of industries. According to a study from the University of Illinois, CCS development and expansion has an employment demand of 14,400 jobs, generating over $3 billion more for the State’s economy.
